From the animatic of his original adult-animated series “Dooms-Dad”; this scene showcases Jordans ability to create montages that move.

The scene begins as Ted & his long-lost son realize that it’s Doomsday. Ted decides to “Make Up For Lost Time” by squeezing 12 years of father-son bonding into a single afternoon, perfectly executing the “Promise of the Premise” of the show. It’s a dark-comedy about a man learning to be a father, while surviving the apocalypse.

Through clever soundtrack selection & only revealing the apocalyptic punchlines AFTER each father-son vignette, we allow the viewer to join in Ted’s absurd, sitcom-y world, while Nick’s frustration with their apocalyptic reality quietly simmers in the background.

The transition into the final beat of the montage in the elevator is uniquely smooth, thanks to the use of Diegetic Music (Music that exists in the world of the show). With the song now playing over the elevators speaker, the viewer is brought back to reality as the characters share a brief, seemingly innocuous conversation. Then, as the doors open, the viewer is able to relate more to Nick’s frustration as they realize that Ted has risked their lives in yet another foolish fatherly fantasy.
