“Waitress Scene - Dooms-Dad (Animatic)”

From the animatic of his original adult-animated series “Dooms-Dad”; this scene showcases Jordans use of music & tension. Leslie Gores “Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows” juxtaposes the horror of a zombie apocalypse, & heightens Teds rose-tinted perspective of his dire situation…

To set the scene, we open as Ted second-guesses his decision to accept custody of his long-lost 12-year-old son, who is alone in the diner… With a zombie…

When Ted returns, oblivious to the apocalypse, he initially assumes that the zombie attacking him must be some kind of prank! The scene consists mostly of a single tracking shot from left to right as Ted holds the waitress at bay, pondering the origins of this elaborate “charade”, all while his hunter becomes increasingly aggressive & dangerous

By only presenting the Zombie Waitress in the profile, the viewer is given the distance to share in Ted’s denial, while saving the gruesome close-up for the final moment of the scene when Ted is confronted by the mortal stakes.
