The main hurdles to sort out were the overall rules governing the post-apocalyptic sandbox of Dooms-Dad & establishing a comedic character dynamic between the father & son that still validates their life & death stakes.
the A-story of each episode stems from a classic father-son sitcom conflict, then a thematically relevant apocalyptic B-story is mapped over it; where the lessons & takeaways of the Apocalypse scenario would bear the solution
we needed to establish a world that is a fertile playground with ample apocalyptic B-stories for the characters to face… So, in true cartoonish fashion, Dooms-Dad’s world doesn’t end because of any ONE apocalypse… It’s EVERY apocalypse.
Scene of a city park during sunset with zombies, Aliens, a space-ark, a tornado, a tidal wave and a nuclear explosion in the background. A father & son sit & listen to music next to a sign that says 'Please pick up your mess.'
But remember, this is a comedy & even in terrifying circumstances, our main characters have to keep things light-hearted. If Ted is going to provide the classic “Sitcom-dad” energy, he can’t constantly anguish over Nick’s safety…
Dooms-Dad needed a son who could look after himself... forced to grow up before his time… An expert in the apocalypse… Nick became A Pre-Teen Prepper...

After completing the pilot script, Jordan saw an opportunity to take his vision to the next level… He would teach himself how to draw, in order to create an animatic for the full pilot episode.
Hand-drawn storyboards and notes on a sheet of paper detailing scene 1 of the pilot episode of "Dooms-Dad" The sketches include images of a gas mask, a person sitting in a living room, a video game played on a tv, and Gina entering.

Timelapse - illustrating Waitress attacking Ted.

In the beginning he was just sketching storyboards on paper, taking a photo of the image, & uploading them into his editing software, but then Jordans wife gave him an iPad with Illustration software on it.
Jordan completed the pilot animatic in late 2025 & is currently seeking private investment to independently produce the fully-animated pilot. The animatic is available for viewing upon request. (Inquire at the bottom of this page)
